ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationF1967;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

Thisconsumersafetyspecificationisintendedtoaddresscertainincidentsassociatedwiththeuseofbathseats,bathrings,andothersimilardevices.

TheU.S.ConsumerProductSafetyCommission(CPSC)identifieddrowningincidentswhichgenerallyinvolvedinfantseithertippingover,climbingoutof,orslidingthroughtheproductafterbeingleftunattendedbytheircaregiver.

Thisspecificationdoesnotaddressincidentsinwhichbathseatsareunreasonablymisused,areusedinacarelessmannerthatdisregardsthewarningsandinstructionsthatareprovidedwitheachproduct,orthoseinstanceswherethecaregiverleavestheinfantunattendedintheproduct.

Thisconsumersafetyspecificationiswrittenwithinthecurrentstate-of-the-artproducttechnology.ItisintendedthatthisspecificationwillbeupdatedwheneversubstantiveinformationbecomesavailableandknowntoASTMwhichnecessitatesadditionalrequirementsorjustifiestherevisionofexistingrequirements.
