ThisstandardisissuedunderthefixeddesignationF2194;thenumberimmediatelyfollowingthedesignationindicatestheyearoforiginaladoptionor,inthecaseofrevision,theyearoflastrevision.Anumberinparenthesesindicatestheyearoflastreapproval.Asuperscriptepsilon(e)indicatesaneditorialchangesincethelastrevisionorreapproval.

INTRODUCTION

ThisconsumersafetyperformancespecificationaddressesinfantbassinetandcradleincidentsidentifiedbytheU.S.ConsumerProductSafetyCommission(CPSC).

InresponsetotheincidentdatacompiledbytheCPSC,thisconsumersafetyperformancespecificationattemptstominimizethefollowinghazards:(1)suffocation,(2)tipover,(3)collapse,and

(4)hooddetachment.Thisspecificationdoesnotcoverproductsthatareblatantlymisusedorusedinacarelessmannerthatdisregardsthesafetyinstructionsandwarningsprovidedwitheachbassinetorcradle.

Scope

Thisconsumersafetyspecificationcoversperformancerequirements,testmethods,andmarkingrequirementstopromotesafeuseofbassinetsandcradles.

Thisconsumersafetyperformancespecificationisin-tendedtominimizetherisksofincidentstoaninfantresultingfromnormaluseandreasonablyforeseeablemisuseofabassinetorcradle.

Thisconsumersafetyperformancespecificationcoversproductsintendedtoprovidesleepingaccommodations(ex-cludingfull-sizecribsorswings)foraninfantuptoapproxi-mately5monthsinage.Productsusedinconjunctionwithaninfantswingarenotcoveredbythisspecification.

Nobassinetorcradleproducedaftertheapprovaldateofthisconsumersafetyperformancespecificationshall,eitherbylabelorothermeans,indicatecompliancewiththisspecifica-tionunlessitconformstoallrequirementscontainedherein.
