The widow Douglas, a kind-hearted lady, adopts him and wants to civilize him, which upsets Huck so much that he flees. Huck unexpectedly comes across a runaway slave, Jim. Out of his good nature, Huck attempts to rescue Jim from slavery. Together they make a raft and plan to float to the mouth of the Ohio, the gateway to legal freedom for Jim. Unfortunately, they miss the place during the storm and have to float down the Mississippi River to the South, where proslavery sentiments predominate. During their voyage, Huck and Jim undertake a series of adventures. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is one of the finest novels in the history of American literature, delights readers of all ages. Few authors have been as successful as Mark Twain in writing for both children and adults.
