IntroductionThe topic of this paper discusses the various influences on the meanings of color- words, especially red, yellow, blue, green, white and black. It is clear that there exists a close relationship between language and culture. This paper shows the relationship among culture, language and color words, then analyses the factors that affect the meanings of color-words from a wide range of perspective in two parts. There are many factors that shape or influence the meanings of color-words. Generally speaking, they can be divided in three main aspects: Firstly, the influences of natural environment on the main symbolic meanings. Secondly, the influences of human and cultural environment which contains political and religious factors, traditions and local conditions, social standards and national psychology factors. Thirdly, the influences of different value concepts including the appreciation of the beauty, the taboos of nations. There are great differences between each other due to their own histories, social systems, morals, psychological features, customs, values and concepts. These concepts affect the ways of thinking and living. After that the author studies the importance of the topic.?The world is full of various colors. As the human society gradually develops, more connotations are added to the meanings of color words; consequently languages become richer and richer. What’s more, with the rapid pace of globalization, there are more and more communication and cooperation between people from different cultures. In order to avoid the misunderstandings and the problems, we should spare no effort to acquaint with cultures. In my opinion, it improves the understandings of the different cultures and nations, benefits the multi-cultural communications to all cultures throughout the world.Ⅱ.
