Step 1
师生问候
T: Good morning boys and girls.
S: Good morning Miss Lin.
T: How are you?
S: Fine, thank you. How are you?
T: I’m fine, thanks. Sit down please.
Step 2 Listen and look.
1. Ask the children to look at the page, elicit as much information about the story as you can in Chinese by asking questions. For example, point to Lingling opening the window and ask what she is doing and why. Answer to let the bird out. Then ask if the bird goes out the window. Answer, no.
2. Play the cassette or read the dialogue. The children listen and follow in their book.
3. Play the cassette again, pausing after each utterance for the children to point at the corresponding picture. Perform a simple gesture to indicate the meaning, for example, point to the window when Ms Smart says open the window. Open the window when Lingling says Bye-bye Tweet tweet. Stand up and sit down as you hear these commands.
T: Open the window.
Ss: ok.
T: stand up. Sit down. Open the door.
Listen and do.
Step 3 Act it out.
1. Divide the class into sections. Give each section a role in the conversation.
S1: Stand up please.
S2: Sit down please.
S3: Open the window please.
S4: Open the door please.
2. The whole class acts the dialogue, with each group saying the corresponding text.
3. The children now act out the dialogue in small group or pairs. Remind them to stand up and sit down in the corresponding parts of the conversation.
Period 2
