The contents of abstract in this thesis
Streets are the frame of the urban space and the location where daily
routine happens. They are also the important connecting space of personal
travels and the site for the display of urban style and activities. In recent years,
because of the characteristic change and overemphasis on the transportation
of streets in Taiwan urban development, the function of streets is limited to
transportation only. Its role and environmental characteristic turn ambiguous
gradually. For the sustainable development of urban function and commercial
activity and the enhancement of streets’ attraction, it is necessary to
understand categories of streets and planning manage these streetscape in a
reasonable way.
The essay tries to take the elements generated by various characteristics
and space of streets as the analyzed items in the discussion of commercial
street categories. And the specialty and characteristic of commercial streets
will be enhanced. The example in the essay is Wufu Chenggong commercial
area with abundant urban traces and is located at the center of Kaohsiung
City.
The survey, analysis, and conclusion will be implemented in terms of the
transportation which influences street formation, the land use in these
commercial area, and the urban space framework. The study contents contain:
II1 to explore the role of streets in the urban framework, street category,
relationship of commercial activity and street. 2 to make clear the
commercial street categories through the survey and analysis of Wufu
Chenggong commercial area. The result will s
