This period is of special importance since it represents two important corner stones in the economy of Northern Cyprus. First of all, the independent state of TRNC was established in 1983; therefore, the data used is inclusive of this period. Secondly, the data also covers the period of time when the European Court of Justice banned trade with Northern Cyprus. Data analyzed suggests high rate of dependence on Turkey for trade, especially after the formal ban of trade with the rest of the world. Further manipulation of data in a time-series regression analysis suggests inefficient excessive government involvement in the economy. It
