沿海地区中小城市经营发展的现状与问题研究

With the acceleration of globalization, competitions between nations become more intense day by day. Competition among nations is especially appearing as competition among cities. The stage where China belongs to is dependent, in large part, on whether China could develop a number of international competitive cities. Urban management is becoming the pressing need and essential means for Chinese urban construction, urban administration and urban planning. Usually, academics discuss with particular emphasis on the management of large and medium cities. However, in order to promote the urbanization in China, we have to rely on thousands of medium and small cities, particularly on those within coastal areas with great potential. Therefore, it is of important practical significance for us to analyze urban management of coastal medium and small cities.
The aim of this essay is to demonstrate the theoretical source of Chinese urban management by analyzing the success of Chinese urban management practice, and general problems that our urban management faces; then I will examine the strategic environmental factors of coastal medium and small size cities, and summarize the competitive advantage of coastal cities by comparing and contrasting several cities’ successful experiences. Finally, this essay will take Ping Hu as an example, analyze the opportunities and threats to develop this city, and discuss the optimum application mode for urban management in coastal medium and small size cities.
