Some reading theories and techniques have been used in the teaching of reading, w hich has brought about the improvement of students reading ability. However, they are not w idely used, but neglected in the teaching process, which affects students reading ability and hence hampers the development of other skills of listening speaking, , writing and translating By analyzing some reading theories and techniques this paper point s out that the teaching of. , reading of ollege English cant be simplified. It should be taken as a complex cognitive process, in w hich the reader and text interact to create or recreate a new meaningful discourse. It is a communicative process. Only when teachers and students become aw are of the importance of theories and techniques can students become good and efficient readers.
