Management of intracanal separated instruments with the microsonic technique and its clinical outcome

Abstract! Objective o evaluate the clinical effect of microsonic technique on removal of
intracanal separated instruments. Methods Fortyfour teet h with 47 intracanal separated instruments,
w hich could not be successfully managed by conventional methods, were endodontically treated with
ultrasonic instruments under dental operating microscope. he success rate w as calculated and the cases
w ere review ed 5 to 19 months after retreatment. Results hirtyfour( 34/ 47) separated instruments in 33
( 33/ 44) teeth were complelety removed wit h a success rate of 75% . hirteen separated instruments in 11
t eeth, however, could not be eliminated from the canals. Root canal perforation or vertical fracture w as not
found. None of t hese teeth show ed periapical deterioration in the followup. Conclusions he combined
use of dental operating microscope and ultrasonic instruments in endodontic treatment enriched the w ay of
managing complicated cases of intracanal separated instruments.
