Methods The homogenized samples were added with 2 mL 50% potassium hydroxide solution, saponified at 70 ℃ for 15 min then extracted with petroleum ether and diethyl ether followed by wash and concentration. The lutein and β-carotene were separated by an C30 column and detected by the UV detector at a wavelength of 450 nm. Results The method showed a good li- nearity over the range of 0.2~4.0 μg/mL with R 20.9990. The recoveries at three spiked levels were between 80%~90%.
