StudyofMicrovesselDensityofSquamousCellCarcinomaof theTongue Abstract [Objective]Insomehumanmalignancies,tumormicrovesseldensity (MVD)wasfoundtohavecloserelationwithitsaggressiveness.Itisalso suggestedthatMVDavaluableprognosticfactor.Inthisstudy,theMVD of61casesofsquamouscellcarcinomaofthetonguewasstudied.The MVDlevel,andotherclinicalandhistopathologicalfeatureswerestudied inrelationwiththesurvivalofthepatients. [Methods]Immunohistochemicalstudyusinganti-CD31monoclonal antibodywascarriedoutin61casesofsquamouscellcarcinomaofthe tongue.TheMVDwasevaluatedunder400xmicroscopefield.TheMVD levelwerecomparedamongdifferentclinico-histopathologicalfeatures. AccordingtothemedianvalueoftheMVD,patientsweresubclassified intohypervascularandhypovasculargroups.Thehistopathological featuresincludingthedepthofinvasion,inflammatoryinfiltration,tumor differentiation,andthefashionofinvasionwerestudied.Thesurvivalof differentgroupswascompared [Results]Thereweresubstantialheterogeneityinthevascularity.The meanvalueofMVDis16.4,medianvalue14,rangingfrom5-43.The MVDvaluehadnosignificantrelationwiththetumordifferentiation, nodalstatus,clinicalstage.ButMVDlevelintumorlargerthanT2was higherthanthatofT1.Inthelog-rankanalysis,thesizeoftumor(T), MVDlevel,statusoftheregionallymphnodeandthedepthoftumor ni vasion hadsignificantrelationwith3-yeardisease-free survival. MultivariateanalysisusingCoxregressionmodelshowedthatboththe sizeofthetumorandtheMVDlevelwereindependentpredictorsof survival 仁Conclusion]TheMVDoftonguecancerhadcloserelationwiththe 2 tumorsize.MVDofT2orlargertumorswashigherthanthoseofT1.The TstageandtheMVDvalueareindependentfactorsinfluencingthe prognosisofpatients.
