Abstract: Carrying capacity ( CC) research has been one of them ost appealing, sophisticated topics asw ell as a theoretical frontier in modern ecology. Based on literature rev iew on CC research h istory, the Evolutionary Tree M ap of CC research w as mapped, which divided the CC research history into three phases: d iscipline em ergence, exploring application and deepening theory, then generated main characters, concerned disciplines and diverse v iew s in different phases of CC research, respectively. CC rooted from human demography, population b iology and applied ecology. In its em ergence phase, CC research, focused on the grow th law of nonhum an being biological population, arch ived its scientific definition, m athem atic functions and d iscipline m echanism, all of wh ich consist of the basis of a new scientific theory.
