ChineseMedicalJournal2009；122(23)．2865—2868 2865 Originalarticle Clinicalimprovementinthetherapyofauralkeloids ZHANGYan—ge，CEN Ying，LIU Xiao—xue，YU RongandXU Xue—wen Keywords：keloid；surgery；radiotherapy,adjuvant；ear Background Keloidshaveapredilectionfortheauralregionbecauseofthespecialshapeofthepinna ． Itisdifficultto resectkeloidsentirelyandmaintainasatisfactorypinnalshape．Surgicalexcision incombinationwithradiotherapy is consideredtobethe mostefficacioustreatmentavailableforsevere keloids ． Thisstudywasconductedtoevaluatethe treatmentofauralkeloidswithjntralesionaIexcisionandimmediatepostoperativeadjuvantradiotherapy． Methods Forty—six patientswith a combined totalof74 auralkeloidswere treated by intralesionalexcision and immediatepostoperativeadjuvantradiotherapy．Allpatientsreceivedatotaldoseof2OGvjn10consecutivedays．The time intervalbetween keloid excision and delivery ofthefirstradiotherapy fractionwas24hours in allcases ． The medianfollow—upwas2．2years． Results Twenty—ninepatientswith48keloids(64．9％)werehighlysatisfiedwiththeiroutcome，andwereratedasgood bythesurgeon．Sixpatientswith12keloids(16l2％)showedgeneralsatisfactionbutwantedaestheticrefinement．and thesepatientswere ratedasfairbythesurgeon．Threepatientswith fourkeloids (5．4％)showedno evidenceof recurrenceaftersurgery,butdisliked theresultbecauseofthediscolorationand irregularityofthescarsurface ． These patientswereratedaspoorbythesurge
