We should properly apologize for our fault, give others face, and save our own face, then we may have a beneficial position in linguistic communication. Different linguists analyze and defineapology differently from their own understand ings, and classify apology into linguistic apology and nonlinguistic apology, spoken apology and writ ten apology,formal apology and informal apology etc. The pragmatic functions and pragmatic strategies are also different in nglish and Chinese apologies. nglish as well as nonnative language learners should choose apologies appropriately according to their own pragmaticwants and pragmatic purposes, then they can avoid pragmatic failure in their linguistic communication, and meet the communicati
