Background
MedicalNutritionTherapy(MNT)isofgreatimportanceforthemanagementoftype2diabetes
mellitus(T2DM),yetthereiscurrentlynouniversalapproachtotheidealdietarytreatmentfor
T2DM.Weaimedtoinvestigatewhetherthecombinationoforganicnakedoatwithwholegerm
(ONOG)withstructureddietaryinterventioncontributebetterinpatientswithT2DM.
MethodsandFindings
Arandomized,single-blinded,multi-armparalleltrialwascarriedoutinadultsof50-65yearsold
withT2DM.445Participantswererandomlyassignedtooneofthefourgroups:usualcaregroup
(n=112,onlybasichealthadvice),dietgroup (n=109,systematicdietplansandintensive
education),50gand100g-organicnakedoatwithwholegerm(ONOG)plusdietgroup (both
n=112,dailyONOGreplacementbasedondietgroup).Theprimaryoutcomeconsistedofchanges
inHblAcandinsulinrésistance.
Outcomedatawereavailablefor420(94.4％)participantsafter30-dayintervention.Therewas
asignificantlineartrend(P＜0.001)showingchangesinglucose,HbA(1)candinsulinresistancefor
theinterventiongroups.Improvementsinfastingplasmaglucoseweresignificantlybetterin
100g-ONOGplusdietgroup (-1.89,SD2.37,P=0.005vs.dietgroup)thandietgroup (-1.06,
SD2.49).ThedifferencesinHbA(1)cchangebetween50gor100g-ONOGplusdietgroupanddiet
groupwere0.36％ (95％Cl-0.06to0.78,P=0.09)and0.52％ (95％Cl0.09to0.94,P=0.02),
respectively;whilebetweendietgroupandusualcaregroupitwas0.38％ (95％Cl-0.80to0.04,
P=0.07).ForLnHOMA-IR,theabovedifferenceswere0.10％ (95％Cl-0.13to0.33,P=0.40),
0.28％ (95％Cl0.05to0.51,P=0.02)and0.12％ (95％Cl-0.34to0.11,P=0.30),respectively.
