The development of water-soluble electrical steel coating in recent years were reviewed, and the preparation methods, common matrix and application effect of water-soluble organic, inorganic, and semi-inorganic electrical steel coatings were in- troduced simply. The development directions of water-soluble electrical steel coating were prospected.
