Methods 　MMP12 p romoter ( ) ( SN P A82 G was genotyped by polymerase chain reactionrestriction fragment length polymorp hism PCR RFL P) analysis in 3 16 ESCC patient s , 243 GCA patient s and 609 healt hy cont rol s. Results 　The overall geno type and allelotype distributions of MMP12 in ESCC and GCA patient s were not significantly different from tho se in healthy controls ( P 0 . 05) . When st ratified for smoking status , the A/ A , A/ G genotype frequencies of MMP12 in GCA patient and healthy controls of smoker group were 89 . 8 % , 10 . 2 % and 95 . 0 % , 5 . 0 % re 2 spectively , there was difference between two group s but no significant statistical difference ( χ = 3 . 43 , P = 0 . 06) .
