It was s ow n t at alt oug t e P sorption capacity of paddy soilsunder oxidized conditions w ere little lower t an t at of dryland soils t e risks of P loss from t e former via runoff and leac ing w ere lower t an t at from t e latter, because t e soil P levels of t e former w ere muc lower t an t at of t e latter. For most paddy soils t e P sorption capacit y increased and t e P release decreased under reduced conditions t an t at under oxidized conditions and t is was attributed to t e formation of amorp ous Fe2+ ydroxides w ic ave a greater surface area and more P sorp- tion sites t an w el-l crystallized Fe3+ oxides.
