This course discusses some of the most fundamental knowledge of the American legal system, and touches on issues relating to the American Constitutional Law, American Criminal Law and Procedure, and Torts. Student Background Requirement: None. This course is open to all students. Prerequisite Courses: None. Language Ability Requirement: This course will be taught in English and the majority of course materials will also be in English, having a good command of English language (preferably: Intermediate or High-Intermediate level of the GEPT test) is a prerequisite for choosing this course. 課程概述與目標： This course is an entry-level American law course focusing specifically on social justice issues. As an entry-level course, we will look at some of the most interesting and controversial issues in American society. Other than the legal aspects of these issues, we will, from time to time, try to incorporate social, psychological and philosophical perspectives in analyzing these problems. A trip to a local NGO will be included in the course. The goal of the field trip is to establish the connection between what was learned in the classroom and what is happening in our local community. Goal of Learning: 1. Study some of the classic United States Supreme Court decisions and articles on social justice issues. 2. Develop the ability to examine the same issues from different perspectives, to learn to appreciate opposing opinions and to form a sense of critical thinking. Anticipated Result: 1. A general understanding of some of the most controversial social issues and the most fundamental legal principles relating to social justice. 2.
