AL1 Review on sustainable development of China aluminum industry.pdf

Review on sustainable development of China aluminum industry Wangxing Li Jianghong Yang (Zhengzhou Research Institute of Chalco,Zhengzhou,China, 450041) Abstract By reviewing the production and demand of aluminum, number of enterprises, production methods and capacity, technical and economic Index, it is introduced in the current paper that the challenges of Chinese aluminum industry, and the achievements of new technologies on bauxite resources, product quality, energy saving, emissions reduction. The countermeasure on those challenges and the outlook of china aluminum industry by 2020 are presented. Keywords : Aluminium industries, sustainable development, review, challenge, countermeasure Introduction Through near sixty-year development, Chinese aluminum industry has made great achievement. Especially, alumina and primary aluminum output have been increased rapidly since 2000. In 2009, there are 34 alumina and 75 primary aluminum enterprises in China, alumina output and demand are, respectively, 23.79 and 26.97 million tons; aluminum yield and consumption amount to 12.846 and 13.80 million tons, respectively. China is the biggest producer and consumer around the world in whether alumina or primary aluminum. Alumina enterprises are mainly distributed in Shandong, Henan, Guangxi, Shanxi, Guizhou provinces and Chongqing City, the Bayer process is adopted as the main production method in almost all the China alumina refineries. Alumina output produced with sintering process has been reduced from 50 percent down to 7 percent. Due to getting worse of the supplied bauxite grade in recent years, the some technical and economic index of alumina production in China has been deteriorated. For instance, the soda consumption is 118kg/t and the bauxite consumption is 2.074t/t in 2009 as compared with 65 kg/t and 1.717t/t, respectively, in 2002. The unit production energy consumption, however, is decreased fr
