The conversation between characters is of great importance to the novel. Specifically, it can fully manifest the personality of characters, demonstrate their relationships and promote plot development. Currently, only a few researches adopt the approach of linguistics in studying conversations in the novel and many of them are from the adaptation theory, relevance theory and code-switching. They are relatively unsystematic and incomplete. Therefore, conversations between characters in Fortress Besieged are worth further exploration.
