Foreign luxuries are highly favored by Chinese consumers because of their unique nature, noble symbol, advanced technology, top quality and rich creativity. The naming of foreign luxury brand names has its own unique characteristics, applying the traditional method of naming. That is, the names of the production places or the originators are often used to name brands. Compared with the general brand names, the Chinese translation of foreign luxury brand names which are named after the places or the originators has greater difficulties because foreign luxury brand names possess more cultural connotations. Therefore, the Chinese translation of foreign luxury brand names is a complicated process owing to cultural differences. Eco-translatology put forward by the Chinese scholar professor Hu Gengshen is a new interdisciplinary theory combining translation study with ecology.
