A b str a c t
21st C entury is a thoroughly digital age and English plays an im portant role in
cu ltural exchange and trade, inform ation and technology tran sition, and th e sharing
of resources and edu cation in the w orld. T h e aim of learn ing any langu age is to
m aster four ab ilities i.e. listening, speaking, reading and w riting. A m ong the four

ab ilities, read ing is m ore particularly im portant as it prov ides b asis an d m aterial
guarantee to furth er developm ent of the oth er ab ilities. A ccording to the new Senior
H igh E nglish C urricu lum Standards (Trial E dition), the cu ltivation of reading ab ility
is an im portant p art of E nglish teach ing in sen ior h igh schoo ls. In E nglish readin g
classes, in order to activate stu dents and im prove th eir com m un icativ e ab ility
teach ers alw ays design qu estions. T h erefore, it seem s th at m uch attention sh ou ld b e
paid to the prop er question design .
H ow ever, at presen t w hen teachers design question s in read ing classes,there
ex ist som e im proper ph enom ena such as inaccurate com preh en sion of m aterials,
in sufficient process of the inform ation, irrelevant expanding top ic to th e cho sen
m aterials, neglect of ch aracteristics of different typ
