Abstract：Theinter·urbancompetitionseemstobeofparamountimportanceforcity．developmenttoday．Theextensiverelianceof
competitiveness-orientedurbangovernanceagendasontheknowledge—based，“new”economy，introducedthenotionof “creativity’’
intodiscussiononthefutureofurbna development．Thoughstillonthemarginsofseriousurbantheory．thediscourseon “creative
cities”thatemergedintheearly2000s，hasalreadyhadmassiveinfluenceonthewaysinwhichcitiesaremnaagedandtransformedin
Europe．Afterexaminationofhow thecompetitiveness-orientedstrategiesbasedoncreativityandrelatedtothequalitiesofplace
increaseculturalna dsocialsustainabilityofurbantrna sformationanddevelopment．thispaperbrieflyrethinksthecurrenturban
developmentpolicyofthecityofSraajevoinrelationtothenotionof“place”，byleaningonthecontemporaryEuropeanurban
developmentpraadigm．TheconclusionpointsoutthatthesustainableincreaseofurbancompetitivenessinSarajevoshouldbepursued
bythedevelopmentprojectsofurbantransfomrationpromotingcreativeknowledgesector，basedontheinclusiveculturalurbna
narrativesrelatedtoplaces，thusassuringsimultaneousgrowthofcreativeknowledgeindustriesandpreservationofdiversesocial
geography．
