Inspection policy for deteriorating System with four states Fenxia Cui Baoyou Liu Haizhen Sun (Department of Mathematics and Physics, Shijiazhuang Railway Institute Shijiazhuang 050043) Abstract The system has four states: normal, abnormal, hidden fault and failure. The normal, abnormal and hidden fault states are working states. When the system is in some working state, it can transfer to back state. When the system is in the failure state, it can be known without any inspection. Only after inspection and diagnosis can it be known which working state the system is in. Whenever the system begins normal state, it is inspected and diagnosed once every random time period until it attains the failure state or it is inspected and diagnosed to be in abnormal or in hidden fault state. When system is in normal, abnormal, or hidden fault diagnostic result is maybe erroneous. Under some assumption, the reliability indices and the expression of expect income per unit time of the system are obtained by using probability analysis and supplementary variable method. According to expression of expect income per unit time, the optimal inspection policy can be decided by optimization method.
