Abstract: The Heart is a Lonely Hunter is the first well-known novel of Carson McCullersrsquo;, an important American writer in 1940s. This book has been selected as one of the ldquo;Pokka Twentieth Century English Novelsrdquo;, ranking the seventeenth one by the Random House American Modern Library. This paper attempts to analyze the theme in The Heart is a Lonely Hunter from three aspects: loneliness, American dream and racial discrimination, so as to reveal the deep meaning of the work.br /
