The course is designed to help you prepare for your prospective role in business communication, especially in China’s international trade. Specific types of communication, letters, e-mails and so on are some of the areas to be included. Through the study of this course, you are required to be able to write good business letters and e-mails and to read and draft documents related to business and to have a brief knowledge of how a transaction of trade is done.;II. Course Assessment:
1. 50 % of the course mark will be based on assignments and 50% on term exam.
2. All projects will be evaluated for
1) meeting the psychological informative goals of
the type of correspondence,
2) correctness (spelling, grammar, structure) and
appearance (layout, arrangement). ;III. The Introduction to the Letter Writing:
I) Essentials of letter-writing:
There are certain essential qualities of business letters, which can be summed up in ABC.
A is for accuracy (exactness or correctness).
Accuracy is very important because the person you are writing to does not, in all probability, know you, nor is likely to be familiar with the circumstances that caused you to write. Therefore, be as specific as possible, giving all the pertinent/relevant/ information as accurately as you can in your letter to him. Here are some sentences that could be found in quite a number of business letters.
;;I) Essentials of letter-writing:
B is for brevity (shortness).
You can take it for granted that the person you are writing to hasn’t time to wade through a long letter. If he receives a long letter, he will probably slip it at the bottom of his pile of incoming mail, with the thought that he’ll read it when he has more time. At the same time, if he receives a long letter
