Acknowledgment During the whole process of my thesis composing, I should show thankfulness
to all the people who have helped me. First of all, I want to express the greatest gratitude to my supervisor, Professor
Wu. From the topics choosing to the final revising of my thesis, she has given me a
great number of precious advices, meaningful comments, all of which have made
great contributions toward the completion of the thesis. Besides, I should express the sincere thanks to all the teachers who teach me in
field of literature and research instruments. Among them, Professor Bai has done me a
great favor to teach me the methods of data analysis. And in addition, during the process of my thesis writing, my family and my
friends have been always encouraging me and providing the related support. i Abstract Working memory is a construct belonging to cognitive psychology. Working
memory can store information and process information simultaneously. In recent
years, working memory has attracted more and more attentions and has become a
focus in applied linguistics. By now, many studies have been done about the effect of
working memory on sentence comprehension, reading comprehension or listening
comprehension. However, there are very few studies concerning the relationship
between working memory and written language production. With theories of working memory and writing processes, the thesis aims at
studying the relationship between working memory capacity and written language
performance of Chinese English majors in University. The study intends to answer
two research questions. On one hand, it intends to find out if students? working memory capacity affects their English written production?s accuracy, fluency, and complexity, and if it d
