On the Development of Modern Logistics in Shanghai U．S．economist Peter Clark Predicted in the 1960s that the logistics industry would be the dark-continent of economic growth in every country， the last way of reducing the COSt，the third profit sources after controlling the materials expenses and improving the labor productivity， as well as the unopened-up virgin soil．The development of modern logistics in Shanghai will not only enhance its economic and industrial competitiveness，but also reduce firms’logistic costs and thus increase firms’ reaction speed to the market as well as resources utility efficient． This thesis consists of five chapters． ChapterOne introduces some basic knowledge of logistics and then analyzes the content and role of modern logistics in national economy，followed by the positioning of logistic industry and mechanism of Petty—Clark theorem as well as the principle of logistic development． Chapter Two introduces the development of logistics in U．S．，Europe and Japan and then analyzes their development trend with the conclusion of their experience． Chapter Three introduces briefly the status of logistics in China，esp． in Shanghai，and then analyzes the necessity of developing modern logistics in Shanghai from three respects． Chapter Four focuses on advantageous and di sadvantageous factors for Shanghai to develop modern logistics and analyzes the impact of China’s entry into WTO on Shanghai’s developing modern logistics． Chapter Five puts forward some proposals on the bases of analyses above， including the exertion of government’s guide effect．the construction of three major platforms of Shanghai for modern logistics，the synthesis of existing logistic resources，the enhancement of logistic talent development and others． Key Words：Logistics；Shanghai；耵O：Three Major Platforms 3 第一章概论 第一节物流的含义、构成环节及分类 一、物流的含义 ”物流”是一个很多人听说过但很少人能够准确加以定义的术语，它是随着 交易对象和环境交化而发展的，需要从历史的角度来考察。 “Distribution”一词最早出现在美国。阿奇·萧(1921)在《市场流通中 的若干问题》(Some Problems in Market Distributio
