043025035倪沈建 绩效管理在中远集运公司人力资源管理中的应用研究 Abstract Along with China’s joining in WTO.the competition within international shipping industry becomes more and more severe.Limited cooperation and eternal competition have been considered as the guideline of 1iner shipping companies.As one of COSCO(Group)Co.Ltd’s subsidiaries in Shanghai,COSCO Container Lines(COSCON)is facing incredible challenge of surviving and developing under the severe market competition.Since competition among talents is the core of all competitions,how to select,utilize and retain talented employees has become a huge problem in front of Human Resource Division of COSCON. As a core function in human resources management,performance management is one of the hardest functions as well.It is considered not only the process of measurement and evaluation,but also the approach of building up mutual understanding between employer and employees. In the process of performance management,employer and employees could clear understand what the objectives are.how to achieve them and to which extent the 0bjectives are achieved. Perfolrmance management system helps to encourage the employees to improve their performance,to motivate themselves and to close the relationship between the employer and the employees by open communication,which is also the most important difference between performance management and performance appraisal. At first the author introduces the theories of performance management. and then analyzes the status of COSCON’s perfornlance appraisal.Though COSCON’s performance appraisal system has moved toward a more legitimate and professional direction,it still lags behind the requirement for employees’ development in a knowledge—based society.The own limitations of traditional performance appraisal such as lacking of future—oriented tends to make employer and employee confront each other,even leads to tight atmosphere within the organization.These 1imitations hurdles the further improvement of human r
