Abst ract The language plays a very important role in human communication.In modern basical educational system,the learning of language includes the learning of mother tongue and the learning of foreign languages.The position of teaching Chinese language and literature is always the key topic in the field of education.This paper focuses on the present crisis of mother tongue,and analyzes the position of the teaching and leaming of mother tongue from the view of entire aspect.It points out that the teaching and learning of foreign languages is based on the teaching and learning of mother tongue,and SO is the learning of Chinese traditional culture. This paper is an investigating report.It obj ects to the Dawa County high school,Panjin City,Liaoning Province,which the author intems in.It mainly investigates the problems of part of the teaching faculties and students when they are under the teaching and leaming of mother tongue and foreign language which means English there.After investigating,the first—hand files are available,and there is following analysis and researching based on it,to arrive at an extensive sense.The whole paper iS divided into 3 parts.First,the background and sense of the investigation,including the unbalanced environment of education in the teaching and learning of the mother tongue of Chinese and the foreign language of English, the multiple sense of the teaching and learning of the mother tongue of Chinese,Dawa high school in as an example,cause extensive thinking;Second,investigation and analysis, including that against students and that against teachers,as well as the analysis after investigation;third,inspiration and countermeasures,including fostering students to be firmly faithful on Chinese national culture,making the mother tongue teachers messengers to pass the national culture,making schools harmonious places to learn languages,improving the present social lingual atmosphere.This paper aims at appealing the society,schools families an
