In some countries, rights in real property are transacted efficiently, due to well functioning legal land registration and cadastre, while other countries strive to introduce the instruments needed to manage property rights. The international community has addressed these problems for some decades, but generally not with much success. Scientific investigations into this domain are emerging. However, the transfer of knowledge and instruments is hampered by the impact of different legal systems, administrative structures, and economic conditions. The course addresses this situation, taking the European legal tradition as its base. It takes a functional view of law and cadastral systems, comparing them across different countries, and
