Indicator(s): 3: Explain that gravitational forces govern the characteristics and movement patterns of the planets, comets and asteroids in the solar system. Indicator Tie to Benchmark: “The long-term stability of the solar system is an element of uniformitarianism. In this outlook, geological and biological processes on earth have progressed at very slow rates. Necessary to this view are solar system stability, absence of significant impacts of comets, asteroids, etc., and the stability of the sun.
