Simultaneously it has been courting industry and business development within this province. The province (.bc.ca) calls it a “structural fiscal imbalance” and plans to: “Reduce the regulatory burden” “Encourage a greater private-sector role in providing public infrastructure and services through public-private partnerships and alternative service delivery models” “Foster growth in other sectors, including agriculture and aquaculture, as well as film and television production and new media” In fact, the province says that Ministry of Water, Land and Air Protection will have fewer staff and resources directed to: Permitting of low- and medium-risk pollution sources (protection will be addressed through codes of practice and other authorization tools). Directly protecting habitat and fish and wildlife species where risks are relatively low.
