* We have spoken about the elements within the Six Sigma Strategy deployment. The deployment can be broken up into 10 phases. * Efficiency: doing things right Effectiveness: doing the right thing * Before we conclude, I want to explain the differences between Six Sigma and other commonly used improvement methods. I need to emphasize this because many a times, some participants are not clear about such differences. * Firstly, Six Sigma is not used just for quality target. Many times when we speak to professionals, they always claim that they have achieved six sigma or close to it. They will show us many quality performance reports saying that they have attained certain sigma level like 3 or 4 sigma level and then says that they have Six Sigma in placed. To emphasize a bit more, one China company we talked to indicate that they would like to achieve 5 sigma at the end of the year. Through my explanation today, you will note that this is not Six Sigma Strategy is about. Six Sigma Strategy is not about setting a sigma target. It is about using a proven methodology to achieve high speed improvement as already shown here. * There are many quality programmes today to which I think many of you have embarked on. Common programmes include ISO 9000,QS 9000, TQM, QCC etc. The difference is that Six Sigma Strategy requires intensive training for the Black Belts in the DMAIC methodology. With this methodology they can embark on many COST REDUCTION projects to attain direct financial benefits. * Companies embarking on this programme does not need to add separate departments to implement Six Sigma Strategy. We can utilize the same people that are used for running our daily operations for the purpose of Six Sigma implementation in order to upgrade the each functional value for Business Excellence. An objective of Six Sigma is to eliminate every ounce of organizational waste and reinvest a small percentage of savings to continue priming the pump for improvements. * As mentioned pr
