1. Help students get a general idea of this passage: save money, stop erosion, help develop local economy through fast reading careful reading.
2. Improve the students’ ability of writing by asking them to find out some key words which can be used in writing a passage called “Erosion and Economy”.

Ⅰ.Warm–up.
What can you do with 5 yuan?
Key: The answer can be varied.
If you have pocket money, what things do you like to spend on?
Possible answers: clothes, books, computer games and so on.
Do you know the serious situation of Yellow River? And what can you do to promote it?
Key: The answer can be varied.
Why we call the river as Yellow River?
Key: Because a large amount of soil flows into the river causing its water yellow.
Compare the following pictures and tell the class what we can do to prevent the erosion?
Possible answer: Plant trees as many as possible.
