Man was given dominion over all the animals. God has dominion over everything, but he gave domion over some of it to man. No other animal was given dominion over anything. Man creates. No other animal, plant, or any inorganic thing exhibits the creative drive that man has. What animal is driven to paint a picture, or create a sculpture, or architecture of buildings, or inventing and engineering of many things. Man is creative, and that is a result of our being made in the image of God. Man communicates. Man has language, or else we could never have the Bible, the word of God. God created man to communicate not only with other men and women, but also to communicate with God. No other being has anywhere near the language capability of man. So if we know that man is unique among creatures in being created in God’s own image, then if we just look at how man differs from all the other creatures, we can gain some significant understanding about the nature of God. * By the context we know that the “He” in Joh 1
