Objective T o observe and compare a composite material w ith deproteined bovine cancellous bone and autogenous red marrow ( DBCAM ) and auto genous bone graft obtained from the illiac crest for pos terolateral spinal fusion. Methods T he cases were div ided into 2 groups randomly of the treatment ( 60) and control ( 59) groups. DBCA M was implanted in test g roup and the auto genous bone was implanted in control g roup. Results T he mean period of followup was 20 months. T here w ere no significant differences betw een t he test and co ntrol groups with respect to rate of union of the fusion and complications ( P 0. 05) .
