Methods A retrospective analysis of 20 years in our hospital 22 patients with sternal fracture patient data, analyze the diagnosis and treatment. Results 2 died, 1 patient with a right ventricular rupture, hemorrhagic shock, died of multiple organ failure after surgery, 1 case of serious accident caused extensive sternal fracture and pulmonary contusion, died of respiratory failure. The remaining 20 cases were cured. Conclusion sternum fractures are life-threatening in patients with severe trauma, early diagnosis of sternum fractures and to determine whether the combined thoracoabdominal cavity organ injuries, the correct treatment is to improve the cure rate is the key. Results Two patients died, one of whom died from multiple organ dysfunction syndrome complicated by right atrium rupture and hemorrhagic shock, and the other one died from respiratory failure complicated by pulmonary contusion and sternal fracture.Twenty patients healed up and discharged.Conclusion The sternal fracture is a severe life threatening injury, and attention should be paid to complicated wound in chest or abdomen.Early diagnosis and correct evaluation are the key for better prognosis.
