PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 3 Pediatric use of antibiotics and bacterial resistance to monitor the status quo Author: Ming-Cheng Su-Wan Wang, Lixia Li Fan [Abstract] Objective To investigate the pediatric use of antibiotics in Jilin and the status quo, to monitor trends in bacterial resistance, the rational use of antibiotics for pediatric reference guide. Methods in April 2003 ~ October 2005 Jilin 3 A-level hospital during the pediatric infectious diseases, hospitalized patients were investigated retrospectively. Acquisition in children with upper respiratory tract infection specimens, conventional methods of isolation and culture of bacteria and KB method for monitoring antimicrobial susceptibility. The results were 662 cases of infection with antibiotic treatment, utilization rate of 100%. Cases, 12 cases (1  5%) selected according to antibiotic sensitivity test records. Using the frequency of various antibiotics, followed by ceftazidime (55%), roxithromycin (23%) and penicillin (22%). 242 copies of the upper respiratory tract infection in 366 samples of bacteria were isolated. Gram-positive cocci 196 (53  6%), Staphylococcus epidermidis 62 (31  6%) and Staphylococcus aureus 53 (27  0%) dominated. Gram-negative bacteria 170 (46  4%), Klebsiella pneumoniae 68 (40  0%) and Escherichia coli 49 (28  8%) dominated. Gram-positive bacteria to ampicillin resistance rate of 86%, resistance to other antibiotics, the rate exceeded 18  5%. Gram-negative bacilli to ampicillin resistance rate of 79%, resistance to other antibiotics, the rate of in excess of 26%. Conclusion Jilin infectious diseases in children in the use of antibiotics to penicillin, cephalosporins, macrolides mainly of antibiotics than a single species, there is the phenomenon of irrational use of antibiotics.
