 PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT 8 Pioglitazone on insulin resistance in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome the impact of adipocytokines [Abstract] Objective To investigate the insulin sensitizer pioglitazone in the treatment of insulin-resistant polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) when the adipocytokines leptin, resistin and adiponectin changes. Methods 35 patients with insulin-resistant PCOS were treated with pioglitazone treatment 12 weeks, monitoring before and after treatment in patients with clinical indicators, testing before and after treatment of serum adipocytokines, fasting plasma glucose, insulin, sex hormone levels and blood lipids. Results in 35 patients, 88.5% improvement of menstruation and ovulation, waist hip ratio and FG scores before treatment were significantly decreased (P lt;0.05), body mass index also declined, but the difference was not statistically significant (Pgt; 0.05), after treatment, luteinizing hormone (LH) and testosterone (T) levels decreased significantly (P lt;0.01), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) levels did not change significantly (Pgt; 0.05), fasting serum insulin and insulin resistance index (HOMA IR) than before treatment were significantly decreased (P lt;0.01), fasting blood glucose after treatment a slight decrease , but the difference was not statistically significant (Pgt; 0.05), after treatment, total cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL decreased significantly than before (P lt;0.01, P lt;0.05), high density lipoprotein was significantly higher than before ( P lt;0.01), leptin and resistin than before treatment were significantly decreased (P lt;0.05), adiponectin compared were significantly increased (P lt;0.05). Conclusion insulin sensitizer pioglitazone may improve insulin resistant PCOS patients clinical signs, insulin sensitivity and glucose and lipid metabolism, adipocytokines leptin, resistin and adiponectin may be involved in PCOS, insulin resistance (IR) of the occurrence, development, and pioglitazone may be
