Methods:Afragmentof380bpofNS5BregionwasamplifiedbynestedPCRforgenotypinganalysis.Viral sequenceswerecharacterizedbyphylogeneticanalysisusingreferencesequencesobtainedfromtheGenBank(n =173).SequenceswerealignedusingMusclesoftwareandeditedintheSE-ALsoftware.Phylogeneticanalyses wereconductedusingBayesianMarkovchainMonteCarlosimulation(MCMC)toobtaintheMCCtreeusingBEAST v.1.5.3. Results:From58anti-HCVpositivesamples,22werepositivetotheNS5Bfragmentandsuccessfullysequenced. Genotype1bwasthemostprevalentinthispopulation(50%),followedby1a(27.2%),2b(13.6%)and3a(9.0%). Conclusions:ThisstudyisthefirstreportofHCVgenotypesfromRond?niaStateandsubtype1bwasfoundtobe themostprevalent.Thissubtypeismostlyfoundamongpeoplewhohaveaprevioushistoryofbloodtransfusion butmoredetailedstudieswithalargernumberofpatientsarenecessarytounderstandtheHCVdynamicsinthe populationofRond?niaState,Brazil.
