OurunderstandingofthepathogenesisofPaget’sdiseaseofthevulvaandthebreastremainslimited.Currentevidencesupports thefactthatangiogenesisplaysanimportantroleinthepathogenesisofseveraldiseases.Therefore,wesoughttode?neitsrole, ascorrelatedwithmicrovesseldensity,inPaget’sdiseaseofthevulvaandthebreast.Microvesselswereanalysedusinganti-von Willebrandfactorantibodyin105casesofPaget’sdiseaseofthevulvaandthebreastcomprising71casesofPaget’sdiseaseofthe vulva,including8caseswithinvasivedisease,and34casesofPaget’sdiseaseofthebreast.Thelatterincluded12caseswithDCIS, 5caseswithbothDCISandinvasivecarcinoma,and6withcarcinomaalone.Elevencaseshadnounderlyingtumouridenti?ed. IncreasedmicrovesseldensitywasdemonstratedinPaget’sdiseaseofthebreastwithDCISandwithcarcinomaalonecomparedto Paget’sdiseaseofthebreastalone,P0.08andP0.013,respectively.Therewerenosigni?cantdi?erencesinmicrovesseldensity inthevulvalcases.NeovascularisationisanimportantprocessinthedevelopmentofPag
