INTRODUCTION Inthispaper,westudytheguidedmodepropertiesofthe anisotropicLHSWs,withtheaimof?ndingastructurecon- ?gurationthatsupportstheplasmonmodes.Potentialdevice applicationsofanisotropicLHSWs,thatemploy?eldlocal- izationoftheplasmonmodes,areexplored. To study various device applications of LHSWs, a ?nite-di?erence time-domain (FDTD) program is devel- opedtonumericallystudydi?erentdevicesthatincorporate anisotropic slab waveguides. Berenger’s perfectly matched layer(BPML)ischosentotruncatetheFDTDgrid[10].The Drudedispersionformulationisusedtomodelthepermit- tivityandpermeabilityoftheleft-handedmedia.Di?erent proposeddeviceapplicationsofLHSWsuchasanewsignal detectorandatwo-channelharmonicseparatormultiplexer areexaminedbyusingthedevelopedFDTDcode.
