Marine?oras,suchasbacteria,actinobacteria,cyanobacteria,fungi,microalgae,seaweeds,mangroves,andotherhalophytesare extremelyimportantoceanicresources, constitutingover90%oftheoceanicbiomass.Theyaretaxonomicallydiverse,largely productive,biologicallyactive,andchemicallyuniqueo?eringagreatscopefordiscoveryofnewanticancerdrugs.Themarine ?oras are rich in medicinally potent chemicals predominantly belonging to polyphenols and sulphated polysaccharides. The chemicalshavedisplayed an arrayofpharmacologicalproperties especially antioxidant,immunostimulatory,andantitumour activities.Thephytochemicalspossiblyactivatemacrophages,induceapoptosis,andpreventoxidativedamageofDNA,thereby controlling carcinogenesis. In spite of vast resources enriched with chemicals, the marine ?oras are largely unexplored for anticancerleadcompounds.Hence,thispaperreviewstheworkssofarconductedonthisaspectwithaviewtoprovideabaseline informationfor promoting the marine ?ora-based anticancer research in the present context of increasing cancer incidence, deprivedofthecheaper,safer,andpotentmedicinestochallengethedreadfulhumandisease. 1.Introduction thepreventionandtreatmentofcancerappearedinthelast threedecades,andtheinterestonnaturalsourcesofpotential chemotherapeuticagentsiscontinuing.
