Thee?ectsofCSVwerealsoanalyzedinbloodfromimmunizedmiceusingdetectionbymeansofantibodiesandmediatorspro- duction.Severalfunctionalbioassayswereemployed:TNFactivitywasassayedbymeasuringitscytotoxicactivityinL929cells,and othercytokineswereassayedbyenzyme-linkedimmunosorbentassay,whereasnitricoxidelevelsweredetectedbyGriesscolori- metricreactionsinserafromBALB/cmice.Afterinjectingsubcutaneously,theLD50presentedanincreaseoftheCSVcorrelation andsimilarlevelsofsusceptibilitywereobtainedforfemaleandmalefromBALB/cmice.Signi?cantdi?erenceswereobservedin thetime-courseofcytokinelevels.Thebalanceofpro-andanti-in?ammatorycytokinesTNF/IL-10andIL-6/IL-10ratioswere signi?cantlyhigherininjectedmicegroupwhencomparedwiththoseobtainedfornon-injectedgroup.TheCSVispoorinanti- geniccompositionanditisdi?culttogetantibodiesspeci?ctoneutralizingthelethalfactor.Thee?ectofimmunizationwith 0.5LD50ofCSVonthebalanceofpro-andanti-in?ammatorycytokineswasmeasured.ThemaximumlevelsofTNFandIL-6, IFN-γandNOwereobservedondays7and21afterimmunization,respectively.IL-10levelspeakedbetweendays21and28after immunizationwithCSV.Withrespect,tobalanceofpro-andanti-in?ammatorycytokinesitwaspossibletoobservethatnegative correlationbetweenserumlevelsofIL-6/IL-10andTNF/IL
