Introduction.Basalcellcarcinoma(BCC)isalocallyinvasivemalignantepidermaltumour.Incidenceisincreasingby10%peryear; incidenceofmetastasesisminimal,butrelapsesarefrequent(40%–50%).ThecompleteexcisionoftheBCCallowsreductionof relapse.MaterialsandMethods.Thestudycohortconsistsof1123patientsunderwentsurgeryforbasalcellcarcinomabetween1999 and2009.Patientandtumorcharacteristicsrecordedare:age;gender;localization(headandneck,trunk,andupperandlower extremities),tumorsize,excisionalmarginsadopted,andrelapses.Results.Thestudyconsideredagroupof1123patientsa?ected bybasalcellcarcinoma.Relapsesoccurredin30cases(2,67%),27outof30relapsesoccurredinnobleareas,whereperipheral marginwas3mm.Incompletelyexcisedbasalcellcarcinomaoccurredin21patients(1,87%)andweretreatedwithanadditional excision.Discussion.Althoughguidelinesindicate3mmperipheralmarginofexcisioninBCC2cm,inourexperience,amargin oflessthan5mmresultsinahighriskofincompleteexcisions. 1.Introduction cryosurgery, curettage, RT, photodynamic therapy do not allowhistologicalcon?rmationoftumourclearance.Di?er- entlysurgicalexcisionwitheitherintraoperativeorpostoper- ativehistologicalassessmentofthesurgicalmarginsiswidely used to treat BCC and is generally considered to have the lowestoverallfailurerateinBCCtreatment[1
