Somemechanismshavebeenproposedtoexplaintheroleofbradykininonglucosehomeostasisandsomestudiesreportedthat theBDKRB2+9/?9polymorphismwasassociatedtothetranscriptionalactivityofthereceptor.Inthisscenario,themainaimof thisstudywastoevaluatetheassociationoftheBDKRB2+9/?9polymorphismwithdiabetesmellitusriskintheBraziliangeneral population.Thisstudyincluded1,032subjectsofthegeneralurbanpopulation.Anthropometrical,bloodpressure,biochemical, andgenotypeanalysesfortheBDKRB2+9/?9bpinsertion/deletionpolymorphismwereperformed.Individualscarrying+9/+9 or+9/?9genotypeshadhigherglucosevalues(84.5mg/dLversus80.6mg/dL,resp.)andhigherfrequencyofdiabetesmellitus (7.6%versus3.6%,resp.)comparedtoindividualscarrying ?9/?9,adjustingforageandgender.Inaddition,higherdiabetes mellitusriskwasassociatedtopresenceofthe+9/+9or+9/?9genotypes(OR=1.91;95%CI=1.09–4.19;P = 0.03).Ourdata suggestthattheBDKRB2+9/-9poly
