Background.ThePakistanipopulationhashigherincidenceofcardiovascular(CV)diseasesatyoungerages,duetoundiagnosed, uncontrolledhypertension(HTN).Avariety ofassociatedHTNstressorsisalsoreported.Thestudyplanstounderstandthe variablesassociatedwithinitiationofHTNinthispopulation.Objective.To?ndplasmaaldosteroneandcortisolrelationship withsomeCVriskfactors(obesity,dyslipidemia,hyperglycemia,sodiumandpotassium)indi?erentstagesofHTNparticularly prehypertension. Subjects and Methods. The study conducted on 276 subjects (25–60 years), classi?ed into prehypertensive (n=55),HTNstage-1(n=70)andII(n=76)accordingto7thJNCreportandcomparedwithnormotensivecontrols(n=75). Theanthropometricpro?les(height,weight,waistcircumference,BodyMassindex)andBPrecorded.Serumcortisol,aldosterone, totalcholesterol,Lowdensitylipoproteins,bloodglucose,Na andK ,usingstandardlaboratorytechniques,weredeterminedin + + fastingbloodsamples.Results.Subjectsweremostlyoverweightandobese(80%,90%,and76%inpre-HTN,stage-IandIIversus 69%incontrols).Thealdosteronelevel(ng/dl)wasinhighernormalrange(9.17–12.41)andsigni?cantlycorrelatedtoBMI(0.587) incontrols,andtoTC(0.726
